Classroom Assistant Position (7/2025)
We have a Fall opening for an elementary classroom assistant starting August 2025.

ArborCreek Montessori Academy is a small, multi-aged elementary school (max 22 students) between the ages of 6 to 12 years old led by an AMI elementary-trained Montessori guide. We offer an authentic Montessori elementary curriculum and are based in Farmers Branch, TX.

We are seeking a dependable candidate who is eager to learn about the Montessori approach to elementary and we are willing to train the right individual.
The role of the classroom assistant is to be an assistant to the Montessori teacher so that the teacher can best support the children. This is NOT a teaching position. The classroom assistant's primary focus is to support the classroom's needs. This includes, but is not limited to, light classroom cleaning, cooking with small groups of children, student supervision and support, and student redirection back to their school work. The classroom assistant sets an example of support and enthusiasm for all classroom activities and models a positive attitude towards learning and/or any school-related activity. Simply put, the assistant helps support the teacher to make the program a success.

The ideal candidate:

Must be fluent in spoken English and genuinely enjoy working with elementary-aged children.

Candidate will be expected to perform light cleaning duties (dusting shelves, sweeping, loading dishwasher, wiping down kitchen, etc.) and support the children as they clean and care for any class pet(s).

Candidate will help supervise children while Montessori teacher works in small group lessons, during recess, riding on the school bus, and while teacher is outside of the classroom.

Our classroom goes out on multiple field trips each week, and so candidate would need to participate in a highly-active curriculum, including nature walks, PE support, and other such high-energy activities.

Cooking skills are a PLUS, as we need the assistant to help cook lunch with small groups of children three days each week.

Candidate will supervise student behaviour and safety while traveling on the school bus and during field trips. (The Montessori teacher will explain the expectations and routines to the children, and the assistant will help children follow these guidelines.)

Candidate will help support the Montessori teacher in planning and running field trips and other classroom activities or outings.

Candidate will help guide and redirect students in their daily work choices as determined by the Montessori teacher.

Candidate will need to remind and reinforce the Student Code of Conduct, but Montessori teacher will handle any serious behavioural concerns or meetings with parents.

Prior classroom experience or experience working with groups of children is a plus.

Minimum of a high school diploma is required, college credits and education prefered.
Working hours are Monday thru Friday 7:30am to approx 3:45pm (*4:00pm on Mondays for a staff meeting) and some weekend or evening hours a few times a year for school events. This is an hourly position, contracted for the 10-month school year August 1, 2025 thru May 31, 2026. The pay is between $19-$20 per hour based on qualifications and experience. There are currently no health or retirement benefits, however, negotiations for a health insurance stipend will be considered upon the offer of a contract renewal. Once hired, the assistant must complete a background check and CPR training (paid for by the school) before working independently with any children.
